Save the Date: Annual Meeting 1/11/24
Please mark your calendars for ShelterJH’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, January 11 at 5:30pm in Hansen Hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church!
We can’t wait to gather with our members in person to reflect on all that we accomplished in 2023 and what awaits for 2024. We’ll discuss new board members, share calls to action for our most important upcoming goals, and share a financial update. See you there!
Funding passes for Flat Creek Apartments!
On December 7, the State Lands and Investments Board considered and ultimately passed American Rescue Plan Act funds for the Flat Creek Apartments which are under construction on Snow King Avenue. We have long supported this project, especially because the 48 homes built there will be available exclusively to locals earning under 80% MFI who are most vulnerable in our community.
Our Policy Chair Kelsey Yarzab made a powerful comment during the hearing: check it out at 4:10:00. Thanks to the SLIB board members (here’s our thank-you note!) who support Affordable homes for workers who make our community run!
Northern South Park
On December 11, the County Planning Commission met for the third time to discuss the draft Land Development Regulations (LDRs) for Northern South Park.
The Commissioners took a straw poll (an unofficial, preliminary vote) and voted 3-2 to not support strengthening LDRs regarding integration and phasing; however, one of the commissioners who voted against these necessary changes will be leaving the Commission at the end of the year, so we could have a different outcome with the different Commission in 2024.
The Commission is scheduled to meet next on 1/8/24. Remember to send in your comments—check out our tips for commenting here.
WYCF grant
We are excited to announce that we received a general operating grant from the Wyoming Community Foundation!
We are so grateful for this funding that will help address our need for operational support. Grants help sustain our important and necessary work building grassroots support to address housing insecurity in the Tetons. THANK YOU, Wyoming Community Foundation!
Thanks for your board service, Elizabeth!
An enormous and sincere THANK YOU to our outgoing board member Elizabeth Hutchings!
Elizabeth joined the ShelterJH board three years ago when we were a fledgling organization that had just welcomed its first part-time staff member. Elizabeth has been an instrumental part of our growing momentum since then, sharing her marketing and communications expertise and public comment prowess throughout her term. We wish you the best in Salt Lake City, Elizabeth—and we look forward to enthusiastically Zooming you in to all of our future gatherings!
