April 2026
Did you commit to vote AND declare your party for the primary?
Heads up, voters! Wyoming’s party declaration deadline is MAY 13. That means you have to choose which primary you’ll vote in before candidate filing ends (in other words, you’re being asked to pick a ballot before you know who’s running).
We’re not recommending you register with a particular party, but we do know voting in the primary is critical, and that requires registering with the Democratic or Republican party. Make sure to check and update your registration well ahead of May 13.
Take a minute to confirm your registration and commit to vote here and we’ll see you at the polls! Make sure you check out these key election dates, too.
Virginian hits a SNAFU
There’s still a lot we don’t know about the right path forward at the Virginian. Legal teams, elected officials, and developers will need to work through the details of the past two meetings and the past two years. A significant misunderstanding had made the next steps unclear, but we’ll learn more at the next meeting on May 11.
What we do know is this: locals need homes now. Whatever the path forward, we support getting housing built in the 100% deed-restricted Virginian neighborhood.
Welcome, Jean!
We are so excited to celebrate Jean Day’s appointment to the ShelterJH board this year! Jean’s passion for civic engagement and homes for those who are most vulnerable in our community is an invaluable addition to our collective movement towards housing justice. We are grateful for her board service. Learn more about Jean here.
April 27: Annual Legislative Lookback
Thanks for attending our Legislative Lookback event this month! 70 people from across the political spectrum gathered to hear from our three local state representatives to learn about their time in Cheyenne. Read more about the content we discussed here.
Special thanks to St. John’s Episcopal Church for donating the meeting space for this event and to the Teton Democrats for cohosting.
Election Block Party
Save the date for our Election Block Party on June 10 and join ShelterJH with six of our civically-minded cohosting organizations for an evening of beverages, music, and civic engagement at the Brewpub. Come hang with neighbors, meet local candidates, register to vote (or check your registration if you’re not sure!) and celebrate the start of election season with some joy. See you in June!
Northern South Park Plan deemed “insufficient”
The submission of the Development Plan for Northern South Park is a meaningful step forward for housing locals. Thanks to dedicated community advocates, a majority of these homes are slated for deed-restricted development, and a full build out could make a real dent in our housing shortage.
Ultimately, County staff determined that the Development Plan needs more work. The Gill Team has spearheaded this private-sector solution to bring deed-restricted homes online, and we look forward to its realization without the utilization of public funds.
