Annual Meeting: Friday, December 18, 11am-1pm
You are cordially invited to ShelterJH’s virtual annual board meeting this December. During this meeting, attendees will receive updates on ShelterJH’s policy platform, weigh in on our top goals for 2021 (including watchdogging northern South Park and working towards a Real Estate Transfer Tax), learn about opportunities to engage in local housing advocacy, and confirm ShelterJH board positions. Members and non-members are welcome; however, only dues-paying members will be able to vote on board members and board officers. Please join us.
We have openings on our board, so if you would like to nominate potential new board members, please submit their names and a brief resume to me via email by December 11. Board members must be dues-paying members.

Call to Action: Hoback RV Park Evictions
Residents at our local Hoback RV Park are facing eviction and must be out of the park by the end of December. A short-term eviction in the middle of winter paired with old, frozen trailers is impossible for many of the low-income, elderly, and high-risk residents. Unfortunately, the dire water quality situation at Hoback leaves few options. Work with us as we advocate to to make sure that these residents have access to safe, secure housing throughout the winter and beyond. Sign the petition now!
Two New Board Members Hope to Join Our Team!
We are excited to introduce Ash Hermanowski and Elizabeth Hutchings to the ShelterJH community. Ash moved to Jackson a year ago and is a passionate food justice advocate. She led Hole Food Rescue’s Sprout Mobile program this summer and was recently hired at One22 to help design the new Jackson Cupboard service model. Elizabeth Hutchings has been in the valley for three years and is a business mentor with Silicon Couloir. She has lived in a variety of tents, vans, and homes throughout her time in Jackson and is a dedicated housing activist. Ash and Elizabeth’s enthusiasm for ShelterJH’s mission has already reinvigorated our work and we are thrilled to invite them to join our board! Members can vote to confirm them as board members on December 18.
C4 Status Official!
After much anticipation, ShelterJH is officially incorporated as a 501(c)4 non-profit organization. We are the only 501(c)4 non-profit in the valley, and we are completely independent and free to work on the behalf of workers and tenants. All of our money comes from our members–not from top-dollar donors. We can endorse housing champions for local office and once they are elected, we can continue to educate them and hold them accountable. When our representatives know ShelterJH members will vote to keep them in office, that’s power. In fact, it’s a game-changer.
